Games start this week



WILLIAMSON – The 2015-2016 Boys’ and Girls’ basketball seasons have started and several local teams are preparing for what should be an exciting year.

The Mingo Central Miners will begin their official basketball season against the Logan Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec. 8. at the Williamson Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. On Dec. 11. the Miners will host Herbert Hoover at 7:30 p.m. and the travel to Poca on Dec. 15. at 7:30 p.m.

Coach Allan Hatcher, the tri-captain of the Logan Wildcats team during his senior season in the 1973-74 roundball campaign and a former assistant coach under Willie Akers, returns to Williamson where he coached the Wolfpack to the Class AA state championship in 1983.

Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson takes over at Mingo Central for Brad Napier. Thompson also returns to the Fieldhouse where he helped coach the Williamson Wolfpack as an assistant to Curt Fletcher.

The season opener for both Mingo Central and Logan and the game is expected to draw a huge crowd, reminiscent of the old Williamson and Logan games of past years.

The Mingo Central Lady Miners began their season Saturday Dec. 5. at Van, and are scheduled to host the Tug Valley Lady Panthers on Dec. 8. at 7:30 p.m. On Dec.11 the Mingo Central Lady Miners will host Man and the game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The Tug Valley boys’ basketball team will begin their season on Dec. 11. on the road against Richwood at 7:30 p.m. The next game will be played on Dec. 18. when the Panthers host Cross Lanes Christian at 7:30 p.m. The very next day the Panthers will travel to Inez to play Sheldon Clark at 7:30 p.m.

The Tug Valley Girls’ basketball team is scheduled to play their first game at Mingo Central against the Lady Miners. Next for the Lady Panthers will be an away game against Betsy Layne, Ky. On Dec. 14 the Tug Valley Lady panthers will play a rescheduled game at Charleston Catholic at 7:00 p.m.

The Belfry Pirates Boys’ basketball team is scheduled to play East Ridge at home on Dec. 8. The game is scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. On Dec. 11. the pirates will travel to Betsy layne for a games scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Then on Dec. 15. the Pirates will host Letcher County Central at 7:30 p.m.

The Belfry Lady Pirates are scheduled to begin their season at home against the Shelby Valley lady Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Pirates will then host Magoffin County on Dec. 12. at 7:30 p.m. during the Debbie Hunter Memorial Lady Pirate Invitational. On Dec. 14. the Lady Pirates will will host the Pikeville Lady Panthers at home at 7:30 p.m.

The ACA Eagles Began their season back in November at the Parkersburg Christian Tournament. The ACA boys’ basketball team is scheduled to play Greater Beckley Christian on the road at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8.
