Moorefield 55, Tug Valley 26

No. 4 Moorefield pounded 322 yards on the ground en route to a 55-26victory over No. 12 Tug Valley in the Class A State Quarterfinals at Yellow Jacket Field.

Most of the leg work was done by Moorefield senior Wil Schoonover with 23 carries for 212 yards with two scores, which also paved the way for quarterback Shane Myers to garner four short yardage touchdowns on 11 touches for 52 yards.

The Yellow Jackets went up 14-6 on a 71-yard run by Schoonover in the second quarter, but Tug Valley answered with a four yard run by Corbin Oliver.

Myers added a three yard touchdown to close the first half as Moorefield carried a 21-12 lead into halftime.

Moorefield scored thrice in six minutes in the third quarter to break the game open with a 42-12 advantage on two touchdowns by Myers and one by Schoonover.

Tug Valley’s Calvin Blankenship scored on a 35-yard reception in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The Panthers’ Jeremy Dillon recovered a fumble and returned it 78 yards for a touchdown.

Caleb Kite scored the last touchdown for Moorefield with a minute and change left.

Moorefield will face the Magnolia-Williamstown winner in the state semifinals.

This is the 11th state semifinal for the Yellow Jackets in 22 playoff appearances.
