Wolfpack wins county soccer title

WILLIAMSON – The Williamson Wolfpack Soccer team captured the Mingo County Middle School Championship beating the Burch Bulldogs 1 – 0 Wednesday night at Lefty Hamilton Park in West Williamson.

This was the first soccer county championship for Williamson Pre K-8 in school history.

First year Head Coach, Tyler Smith’s team scored the only goal of the game in the first half as Josh Wellman made his way down the field and kicked from 20 yards out.

“The Wolfpack played a very good team tonight, but we felt we were just as good,” Coach Smith said. “We have an attitude of winning, and that’s what we did. I am so proud of these student athletes. I want to praise their defense; Burch can come at you as they did, yet we just kept them from getting shots.”

Coach Smith also added that he also contributes the teams great successes to Principal Shannon Blackburn, Asst. Principal Ralph Pyszkowski, and Athletic Director Julius Hatcher for the support they gave him and the team.

Additionally, Coach Smith thanked the parents and Wolfpack fans for their continued support of the team.

The team roster is Kristine Brucal, Susan Hall, Maliyah Martin, Niles McCoy, Ryan DeBoard, Josh Wellman, Hunter Blake, Kulik, Donald Robinson,Logan Perry, Jarius Jackson, Jordyn Marcum, Jasper McCoy, Amy Wellman, Hunter Runyon and Caleb Rogers.
