GOODY, Ky. – Thursday night featured the boys and girls 58th District Championship matches in high school soccer.

In the boys Championship match the Belfry Pirates faced off against the Pikeville Panthers. The Pirates won the match by a score of 4-0. Christian Long, Blake Mendoza, Wilson Harris and Ashton Leedy all scored goals to help bring the first ever District Championship in soccer to Pond Creek.

Pikeville goalie, Evan Hall had 14 saves during the match and Belfry goalie, Dominic Gentile, had six saves during the match.

Both teams will advance to the Regional Tournament to be held at Belfry soccer complex this Tuesday and Thursday.

The girls District Championship match featured the Belfry Lady Pirates and the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Pirates by a score of 10-0.

The Lady Bulldogs scored five goals during the first half. Sheree Hay scored four goals during the match to help Lawrence County gain the District Championship title over Belfry.

The Lady Bulldogs had been nearly perfect on the season. They were 13-0 in the region and 11-0 in the district. During the regular season the Lady Bulldogs had a record of 20-6.

Belfry goalie, Kylea Stanley, had 16 saves during the match and Lawrence County goalie, Catherine Clay, had three saves.

Both teams will advance to the Regional Tournament to be held at Sheldon Clark on Monday and Wednesday of this upcoming week.
