GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry girls’ soccer team lost a hard fought battle to the Pikeville Lady Panthers last week. The Lady Panthers won the match by a score of 2-0.

Rebekah Lindsey scored the only goal of the first half, off of an Olivia Whitfield assist to put the Lady Panthers on top by one score at halftime.

Elizabeth Staggs scored the only goal of the second half from an assist from Lindsey to make the final score of the match 2-0 in favor of the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Pirates attempted 21 shots at the goal and Pikeville goalie, Savanna Nunemaker, had 18 saves throughout the match. The Lady Panthers attempted 17 shots at the goal and Belfry goalie, Kylea Stanley, had 10 saves.

The Lady Pirates fall into a record of 6-8-1 and the Lady Panthers advance to a record of 5-9-1.

Boys Match:

The Belfry boys’ soccer team defeated the Pikeville Panthers by a score of 7-0.

The Belfry Pirates controlled the match against the Panthers by scoring four goals before the half. Noah McNamee scored first for the Pirates during the 11th minute from an assist from teammate Dylan Brown.

Blake Mendoza scored next during the 20th minute, unassisted, to put the Pirates on top by two quick scores. Ashton Leedy scored the third goal from a free kick during the 29th minute.

Brown scored the final goal before the end of the half, unassisted, during the 34th minute to make the score at halftime 4-0.

Brown kicked off the second half by scoring another goal nine minutes into the second half from an assist from teammate Matt Lambert. Lambert then scored during the 54th minute, unassisted, to put Belfry on top by six scores.

McNamee scored the final goal of the game during the 62nd minute to give the Pirates then win by a score of 7-0.

The Pikeville Panthers attempted nine shots at the goal and Belfry goalie, Dominic Gentile, had three saves during the match. Belfry attempted 22 shots at the goal and Pikeville goalie, Evan Hall, had 11 saves.

The Pirates now advance to a record of 12-2, the Panthers fall to a record of 8-7 on the season.
