GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates will host the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish this Friday night at CAM Stadium.

The Pirates will enter the game with a record of 4-0 and Knoxville Catholic will enter with a mark of 2-3. The Pirates have been dominating the running game this season and their run defense is just as good. The Pirates have 1,240-yards rushing through four games and have only allowed 341-yards rushing by opposing teams.

The “can’t stop, won’t stop” Pirates enter their third week atop the class 3A polls in the number one spot. No team has been able to stop the Pirates fierce running game so far this season. The Pirates are a very physical team and most teams cannot match their intensity.

Knoxville Catholic has a couple of Division 1A signee’s on the team. The Fighting Irish have a utility player that they utilize very effectively. Amari Rodgers plays wide receiver for Knoxville, Tenn. school and they get him the ball in a lot of creative ways.

One player has reportedly signed with Tennessee and the other with USC.

“This team has very good size and they are quick and skillful. They have a very good skill player that they use very well, our main concern with him this game is that when he gets tackled it’s always by more than one player,” said Belfry Head Coach Phillip Haywood.

The Pirate defense has given up a lot of passing yards this season, 556-yards to be exact, but they have allowed zero passing touchdowns.

Haywood said, “We have stuck to our normal game plan all week, we are pleased with our progress so far but we are still taking this one game at a time. We will keep climbing and working hard; our kids have worked very hard and have a great attitude, that’s a winning combination.”

Knoxville Catholic is big and skillful, however will they be able to match the physicality that the Pirates bring to each game? Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday night and the game will also be Belfry’s Homecoming game.
