NAUGATUCK – The Tug Valley Panthers are set to host the Meadow Bridge Wildcats on Sept, 4. at 7:30 p.m. at Naugatuck. This will be Tug Valley’s alumni week where they will recognize past Panther players at the game.
Head Coach Tony Clusky and the Panthers are heading into week two of the regular season, coming off of a big win against the Sherman Tide last week. The Panthers rolled past the Tide 36-7 with big performances from Tyler Conley, Calvin Blankenship and Corbin Oliver.
Meadow Bridge lost their last contest against Van by a score of 34-16. The Wildcats have been doing well over the past couple of years, their record stands at 43-13 since 2012 and have made it into the playoffs every year for the past five seasons. Head Coach Larry McClintic has seen his fair share of ball games; the 70 year old coach has 281 total wins over his 48 year career.
The Panthers had a monster first showing against Sherman. Conley threw three touchdown passes during the game; Blankenship caught two of the touchdown passes and gained 132 yards receiving. Oliver rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers had 409 total yards during the game.
Clusky said, “There’s not much you can say about Meadow Bridge, they are good every year and it’s always a tough game. We are staying focused on us right now; we have a lot of work to do and a lot of areas that need attention.”
Some of Tug Valley’s players may have revenge no their minds. Meadow Bridge was the only team to defeat the Panthers during the regular season last year.
The Panthers are taking advantage of their newly renovated football field, they have big plans for revamping the stadium but the field portion was completed right before the season started. It seems to be working out great for the Tug Valley’s program.
Coach Clusky wanted to remind all the former Panther players that the school and boosters would be thrilled to recognize them for alumni week and all you have to do is sign up before the start of the game. The former players will be recognized at halftime.
