NAUGATUCK – Sources have told the Williamson Daily News that Edwyn May has been chosen by an interview committee to be the next head basketball coach at Tug Valley High School.
May will replace Garland Thompson, who recently resigned.
Most recently May was the head coach at Kermit Middle School. May is a graduate of the old Kermit High School where he was a standout for the Blue Devils. He went on to play at Alice Lloyd College.
In the past, May was an assistant coach at Tolsia High School and served as interim head coach for the Rebels during one season. His son, Tyler May, was an all-state guard for the Panthers this past season as a freshman.
Tug Valley is expected to return several players from last year’s roster.
May is a longtime Physical Education teacher in the area.
Several coaches will be officially hired when the Mingo County Board of Education holds its next regular meeting on Tuesday, June 9.
