MADISON – The Belfry Pirates boys’ soccer season is underway. Tuesday evening the Belfry Pirates traveled to Madison, W. Va. to take on the Scott Skyhawks in the first game of the season.
The Skyhawks pulled off a narrow victory outscoring the Pirates 3-2.
Scott struck early in the game with the first goal by Garrett Napier, two minutes into the contest. The two teams battled longer into the game before the second goal was scored by Scott at the 16 minute mark, Danish Wasseem squeezed a shot past Belfry goalie Dominic Gentile, with an assist from teammate Napier.
It was 38 minutes into the contest before Belfry scored their first goal, Matt Lambert scored on an assist from teammate Blake Mendoza. Lambert quickly scored again at the 40 minute mark from an assist from Ashton Leedy to tie the ball game.
Scott’s Nicholas Raby scored an unassisted goal late in the game to solidify a win for the Scott Skyhawks.
Belfry attempted 15 shots on the goal and Scott attempted 17 shots on the goal. Belfry’s Goalie Dominic Gentile had 11 saves throughout the game and Scott’s goalie Tristan Moore had five saves.
The contest was a non-conference game, but still Belfry begins the season with a 0-1 start.
The Belfry Pirates boy’s soccer team will play Johnson Central on Thursday Aug, 20. And then travel to Perry County Central on Aug, 22.
