Zak Roberts is a healthy young man, and always has been. An early bout with chicken pox left him with a strong immune system, or so his mother said.
Which is why he never missed a day of school.
Ever.
From when he entered Regional Christian School in 1999 until his graduation this year.
“I hadn’t even thought about it until I was in tenth grade,” Zak said. “Then I got really motivated to go without missing until I graduated.”
But perfect attendance is only one of Zak’s accomplishments.
He has served as the President of the West Virginia chapter of SkillsUSA, an organization for Career and Technical Education students; was a page at the West Virginia Legislature; is active in 4-H; and recently ran for office at the national level in Beta, an organization that promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.
Zak also plays tennis, and will attend the University of Pikeville in the fall on a tennis scholarship.
“Stress?” he answers when asked if he ever feels overwhelmed. “Basically, my life is just always doing something.”
Zak attends Regional Christian for half his school days, and spends the other half at Mingo County High School where he is a graphic design student. He will study Political Science at UPike, and hopes to go into public service.
Regional Christian Schools graduation is June 3.
