WILLIAMSON - Several police agencies within Mingo County recorded arrests over the weekend, including the West Virginia State Police, Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, and officers in the Delbarton and Kermit municipalities.
Mary Sammons, 35, of Delbarton, was taken into custody by MCSD Cpl. J. Endicott and Sgt. J. Smith on charges of receiving and transferring stolen goods and conspiracy to receive and transfer stolen goods.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the officers, Mary Sammons allegedly conspired with her juvenile son to conceal and transfer $1,600 cash that her husband, Anthony Sammons, had stolen on May 7, during an armed robbery at the home of Dal Ooten located at Duncan Fork, on U.S. 119.
The complaint further stated that Mary Sammons was aware the money was stolen, and furthermore; took $500 of the stolen funds to the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden where her husband was incarcerated after being arrested for the robbery, and put the money on his jail account which allows the prisoner to make purchases of personal hygiene items, food, clothing and other items.
Sammons was arraigned on the charges before Mingo Magistrate Dallas Toler who set her bail at $7,500.
Michelle Ellis, of Delbarton, was arrested by Delbarton Patrolman A.R. Davis on charges of malicious wounding after she reportedly assaulted Kelly Bishop at the residence of the victim.
Davis said that Ellis and her boyfriend, Joey Butcher, were in an argument, and Bishop opened the door of her apartment and told Butcher to step inside to get away from his irate girlfriend. At that time, the patrolman reported that Ellis gained entry into the residence and proceeded to slam the victim to the floor, which resulted in a head injury. Ellis is further alleged to have punched Bishop in the face multiple times.
Bishop was transported to the Williamson Memorial Hospital by STAT Ambulance and was treated for the injuries she sustained during the attack. Ellis was arraigned by Magistrate Toler and was incarcerated in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $5,000 bail.
Patrolman Davis also arrested a father and son, Terry Baisden and Micah Baisden, respectively, both of Delbarton, after the duo allegedly harassed patrons at the Delbarton Opry House, and were said to have been intoxicated.
The men were told to leave the location and to not return, but those orders were not obeyed and the father and son made a second trip to the Opry House and repeated the offense. Terry is also accused of threatening to “whip” the patrolman.
Both men were arraigned before Magistrate Pam Newsome who released them after they each posted a $1,000 Personal Recognizance bond.
Kermit Police Chief Ernie Chambers arrested Goldia R. Davis, 29, of Kermit, on charges of driving on a suspended license for reasons of DUI, after performing a records check on the defendant’s vehicle. Davis was arraigned in front of Magistrate Pam Newsome, who set bond at $1,000.
Jonathan David McCoy, 33, of Dingess, was taken into custody by MCSD Deputy E. Williams after he allegedly shoved his cousin, Randy Hall, into a parked automobile causing him to suffer an eye injury.
McCoy is also accused of threatening to cause further harm to the victim. McCoy was arraigned before Magistrate Newsome and was issued a $1,500 bond.
MCSD Deputy M.J. Miller arrested Justin Willie Hensley, 20, of Dan’s Branch Road, on charges of DUI, underage consumption and reckless driving.
The criminal complaint stated that the deputy was on road patrol in the West End of Williamson when he observed a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado turning off of West Fourth Avenue onto Slater Street, driving in a reckless manner. Miller attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the defendant began to drive at an increased rate of speed and attempted to out run the officer.
Hensley allegedly drove through a resident’s yard and finally stopped the vehicle on Hill Street. After approaching the defendant’s truck, Miller detected a strong alcoholic odor on his breath. Hensley reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving. Field sobriety tests were administered, which the defendant failed to pass. The Alcohol Breathalyzer test produced results of .139, above the legal limit. Hensley’s passenger, Andrew Birchfield, who attempted to jump from the truck, was charged with fleeing; no vehicle, and underage consumption.
Hensley appeared before Magistrate Newsome who set bond at $1,100. Birchfield was also arraigned by Newsome and was issued a $1,000 bond.
WVSP Trooper J.D. Matheny arrested Clarence Dempsey, on charges of receiving/transferring stolen property, driving on a suspended license, expired motor vehicle inspection sticker and no proof of insurance.
Dempsey was released after posting a $900 Personal Recognizance bond set by Magistrate Dallas Toler.
