CANADA, Ky. — A building apparently functioning as a storage space located roughly half a mile up Meathouse Fork in the small community of Canada, caught fire early Tuesday morning and was destroyed.
Big Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rick Green told the Daily News that his department received a call of a structure fire at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday. By the time the firefighters arrived, “the building was fully engulfed,” Green said.
The chief said that the building was full of metal, along with many combustible materials, like books and papers.
“It looks like it was a junk building,” Green said.
He also said that there was no electricity powering the building and that he “had no idea what caused the fire.” The Kentucky State Fire Marshall was called in to investigate.
“It’s a suspicious fire,” Green said.
Green also said that the building belongs to Judge Michael Thornsbury.
The BCVFD were on scene until approximately 4 a.m. No injuries were reported.
