WILLIAMSON - Friends and family gathered at 208 Logan St. in Williamson Friday afternoon to celebrate the opening of Ferrell Law Office, PLLC, the new law practice of Joshua Seth Ferrell.
Ferrell is the son of Kim Meddings (a teacher at Belfry Middle School) and stepson of Woody Meddings, and has two siblings, Jordan Meddings and Sarah Varney. He is a 2006 graduate of Tolsia High School in Wayne County. He attended Marshall University where he acquired degrees in Criminal Justice and English, and is a graduate of the Appalachian School of Law.
In 2009, Ferrell claimed the coveted first place slot in the National Moot Court Competition, where he competed against law students from all across the United States including Duke University, New York University and the University of Chicago.
“I presented five arguments in one day,” said Ferrell. “It was an honor to win, as it was a very challenging competition.”
Ferrell took the state bar exam in both Virginia and Tennessee prior to testing in West Virginia, and is now a member of all three bar associations. The attorney also plans to test in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Ferrell spent one year in Abington, Va., working with a U.S. Federal Judge before deciding to return home where he then spent two years in the office of Mingo County Circuit Court Michael Thornsbury, working as a law clerk.
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Judge Thornsbury since I was young,” commented Ferrell. “He was my little league baseball coach. I always respected and admired him, but working in his office really deepened that respect and admiration.”
Ferrell is also admitted as legal counsel in U.S. Federal Court in both West Virginia and Virginia, and the Court of Appeals for the 4th and 6th Districts.
The attorney will offer a wide spectrum of legal services including divorce proceedings, personal injury, coal mining accidents, wrongful death suits, wills and deeds, child custody, adoptions and domestic violence petitions, to name a few.
“After two years of working with the judge, I felt it was time to go out on my own and put all the things I learned from him to use in a private practice,” said Ferrell. “I want to extend my gratitude to Judge Thornsbury and his staff for all of the support they have provided.”
To make an appointment to meet with the attorney regarding legal needs, contact his office at 304-235-JOSH (5674), or stop by the Logan Street location Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
