GOODY, Ky. – The Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting at the Thoroughbred Steak House on Monday and had a busy agenda.

The guest speaker was Sister Janet Peterworth who spoke on behalf of the STOP (Strong Through Our Plan) Coalition, which focuses on teenage drug and alcohol abuse. The organization is planning a benefit concert on Saturday, April 21 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Mountaineer Hotel.

The show will feature music by Jimmy Wolford and Glen Simpson, two local singer-songwriters. Both have written about local historical events. Tickets are available for $15 and all proceeds will go to the non-profit organization. Door prizes and a silent auction will also take place. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.

The event will also feature pictures from the 1977 Tug River flood that devastated the valley. The 35th anniversary of the flood recently took place on April 4.

The chamber also heard from members of Americorp volunteers who are in Williamson assisting with the greenhouse and garden in East Williamson. A ribbon cutting was scheduled today at 2 p.m. at the site.

Chamber director Natalie Young made a special presentation to Tug Valley basketball coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson honoring the team’s recent Class AA state championship. Thompson is Young’s uncle, so the presentation was special for both of them.

• Board members nominated four names for the upcoming board of directors election

• President June Blevins named three clerks to count the ballots for the above election
