Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will be offering a teen vocal camp for students in grades 8 - 12 for ages 13 - 18 this week, June 4-8.
The Big Sandy Singers Summer Vocal Camp for Teens will be held at BSCTC’s Prestonsburg Campus.

Set in the style of the television show “The Voice,” the Camp will be allowe each singer to pick the director’s team that they want to be on. They will also be auditioning for solo spots for a finale performance.
“Camp was a great deal of fun for me,” Abigail Stanley, local Idol winner from Pikeville High School, said. “I enjoyed it last year. I made new friends who love to sing like me, and it made me a better singer overall.”
Those attending will come to camp daily from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
One of the camp’s directors is vocal instructor Laura Ford Hall, who has taught voice for the past 12 years. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Pikeville College and her Masters from Morehead State. She is also a 14 -year veteran Kentucky Opry member and has had extensive vocal and performance training that she passes on to her students.
Currently, Hall continues her vocal studies at the Vanderbilt Voice Center in Nashville.
Clayton Case will also serve as an instructor for camp. A ten-year veteran Kentucky Opry member, Case has also had ample vocal and performance training and experience. At the camp, he will be teaching workshops on performance and stage technique.
Timothy C. Cooley, Producer and Technical Director, will also assist with camp. Cooley was a member of the nationally known Apple City Gospel Quartet, and will be teaching students about sound equipment and studio training.
Singing techniques covered at the camp will include singers breathing, pop-belting techniques, chest and head voice control, vocal range, ear training for hearing pitch, microphone control, staging and stage presence, moving on stage, sound equipment training, and more.
In addition, the week will culminate with a performance at the end featuring solos, ensembles, and group singing in BSCTC’s Gearheart Auditorium on the Prestonsburg Campus on Friday, June 8.
The camp fees are $50 for the week, which includes all supplies needed for camp. Students attending must be entering grade 8 through the 12 grade and must arrange for transportation to and from camp, unless they live along U.S. 23 between Pikeville and Prestonsburg, in which case a bus will run.
However limited seating on the bus is available, and if spots are not available, transportation must be arranged.
