DELBARTON - A Delbarton woman was arrested on warrants issued for her arrest that stemmed from allegations of multiple counts of forgery.
According to Delbarton Police Officer David Nunley, he was dispatched to the Delbarton One Stop on March 16, after an employee of the gas station called requesting to speak to an officer. Upon arrival, the officer was informed the business had four checks in their possession that had been used as payment for gas and merchandise that were drawn on an bank account that has been frozen after the owner reported that her checks had been stolen.
After reviewing the security camera footage at the One Stop business, Nunley printed a copy of the individual who was allegedly recorded forging the signature of Jessica Brewer, the account holder, on the checks. The officer was able to find witnesses who were acquainted with the female, and knew her name and place of residence.
Nunley then obtained arrest warrants for Melissa Dawn Copley, 41, of Delbarton, and proceeded to place her under arrest. She was charged with four felony counts of forgery and two misdemeanor counts of worthless checks.
Copley was arraigned before Mingo County Magistrate Pam Newsome and was transported to the Southwestern Regional Jail, in Holden, where she remains on a $2,400 bond.
