Both West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) discussed the storms that recently pounded the area on Friday and Sunday, providing updates and touring damages as a result of winds.
Tomblin reported that power crews were making progress in restoring power following Friday’s severe storms, and that he has continued to meet with state and local emergency management directors and local first responders around the state.
“Since Friday night I have witnessed firsthand West Virginia’s true spirit of neighbor helping neighbor. Folks are coming together to help one another, and we are making progress, but it is going to take time. I ask for your continued patience,” Tomblin said.
Rahall toured the damage from the storm by air, going through Raleigh, Fayette, Greenbrier, Mingo, and Monroe Counties as a guest with the West Virginia National Guard. He also held meetings with emergency operations officials.
“I have been in regular contact with the Federal, state, and local officials, and commend the efforts of emergency response personnel in working hard to bring every resource to bear to help our communities recover,” Rahall said. “I strongly encourage everyone to remain diligent, and check in on your family, friends, and neighbors. I remain committed to helping in any way I can to ensure the lives of all citizens can return to normal as quickly as possible.”
