Two local softball players were named to the honorable mention list of the Class AA softball team.
Kaitlyn Lester, a pitcher for Mingo Central and Olivia Ooten, an infielder for Tug Valley, were both named to the elite list of players.
Both teams struggled this season, however Lester and Ooten stood out on their respective teams.
Lester, who will be a senior next season, was the pitcher for the Lady Miners. She was also one of the team’s leading hitters.
Ooten is only a freshman and is sure to get better the next three seasons. She was a leader on the field, even though she was one of the younger players on the Lady Panther squad.
Several players from nearby Chapmanville and Wayne made the first and second all-state teams, as-well-as the honorable mention list.
The teams were announced Thursday by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
