Tug Valley loses heartbreaker in sectional

WAYNE – Tug Valley took an early 7-0 lead, however they ended the game with a tough 12-11 loss to Tolsia Friday night in the Region 4, Section 4 Tournament played at Wayne.

The Panthers plated five runs in the top of the 1st inning and two more in the 2nd frame to go up 7-0.

Tug Valley added a run in each of the next two innings, but the Rebels of Tolsia started coming back with two runs in the 3rd inning and three in the 4th frame.

Tolsia added one more run in the bottom of the 5th inning, but Tug Valley still led 9-6. But in the bottom of the 6th inning, Tolsia rallied for five runs to take an 11-9 lead heading into the final frame.

Jordon Mounts doubled in the bottom of the final inning, went to third base on a groundout and scored the tying run on a wild pitch to make it 11-11.

But Tolsia was able to get the winning run across the plate in the bottom half of the 7th inning and Tug Valley lost a heartbreaker.

Mounts led Tug Valley with three hits, a pair of singles and a double with one RBI. Aaron “Petey” Muncy and Zack Baize each had a pair of hits, while Chuckie White had a triple and three RBIs in his final game for the Panthers.

Gabe Varney had an RBI single for TVHS, Trevin Horn and Cody McCloud also had base hits for head coach Jeff Varney. David Runyon walked three times for Tug Valley, who banged out 11 hits in the contest.

Mounts started the game going 3 2/3 innings and he was relieved by Varney. Baize came in for Varney and took the tough loss on the mound. Austin Fletcher was the winning pitcher for Tolsia.

Tug Valley ends the season at 4-17. The Panthers had beaten Tolsia twice during the regular season. The other two games with the Rebels were rained out.
