Sheldon Clark wins first game

Staff Report

Sheldon Clark won its opener in a low scoring game 34-31 on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals shot a cold 32 percent from floor, while West Carter wasn’t much better with 35 percent.

The Martin County squad hit 2-of-5 free throws, while West Carter was 9-of -13.

Chase Parsley led the Cards with 12 points, while Chase Kirk got into double digits with 10.

SCHS forced 19 turnovers and out- rebounded West Carter 41 - 29.

A bucket by Kirk at the 1:42 mark of the final quarter put Sheldon Clark up 34- 31.

They missed two straight front ends of the bonus.

Kyle Brown missed a 3- pointer at the buzzer to try to tie the game for WCHS. Brown led West Carter with 20 points.

Sheldon Clark plays at East Ridge on December 6.

Betsy Layne 79, Phelps 29

The Phelps Hornet lost their opener against Betsy Layne on Tuesday night.

Zack Avina led Phelps with 17 points. Davon Smith had five points for coach Bobby Varney.

The Bobcats of Betsy Layne were led by Peyton Case with 14 and Dalton Maldonado with 12 points. Phelps will take on Shelby Valley on the road Friday night.
