Paul W. Maynard, 75, of Turkey Creek, Ky., died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in Sophia, N.C.

He was born in Pike County, Ky., June 6, 1934, to the late John C. and Angie Taylor Maynard.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of

the Turkey Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He is preceded in death by wife, Hester Reed Maynard; son, James Clay Maynard; brothers; John C. (Hooger) Maynard and Carl B. Maynard; and sisters: Ernestine Varney and Nancy Maynard.

He is survived by a son, Clifford Maynard of Turkey Creek; daughters, Carol (Garrett) Staton, with whom he made his home, of Sophia, Paula (Alan) Hunt of Asheboro, N.C., and Linda (Charles) Trout of Sophia; a brother, Christopher A. “Crit” Maynard of Turkey Creek; and a sister, Imogean “Goode” Harville of Gulnare, Ky., 11 grandchildren, Jenny, Tarha, AJ, Sarah, Samantha, Jamie, Michael, Bianca, Ashleigh, Sebastian, and Meghan; eight great-grandchildrens and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Turkey Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Elder Hobart Hamilton and Elder Richard Staton officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed-Lockard Cemetery, Turkey Creek.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Tuesday and anytime Wednesday at the funeral home with special services at 7:00 p.m. nightly. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
