Vennie Blankenship

Vennie Blankesship, 77, of Hanover, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at his residence following a short illness.

He was baron at Reedy Creek, Simon, to the late Wirt and Sadie Kenneda Blankenship.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Simon, with the Revs. Dennis Lester and James Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at the Blankenship Family Cemetery, Reedy Creek, Simon.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m.Tuesday and Wednesday at the church with special serivces at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert.

Richard Carroll

  Richard Shane Carroll, 35 of Turkey Creek, Ky. passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 8, 1975, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Richard E. Carroll of Turkey Creek and the late Alice Ford Carroll.

He was disabled, having been employed by Tramco and a member of the Church of God.

Besides his father he is survived by three children, Cody Carroll and Kayla Carroll both of Westerville, Ohio, and Austin Carroll and his mother, Melinda Jude of Canada, Ky.; one sister, Michelle (Rodney) Williamson of Huddy, Ky.; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25, at 11 a.m. at the Canada Freewill Baptist Church with Roger Williamson, Butch Williamson, Rob Mason and Jack Maynard officiating.  Burial will follow in the Glen Rest Memorial Gardens, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Anna Hatfield

Anna Mae Hatfield, 74, of Galloway, Ohio, formerly of Delbarton, passed away Jan. 22, 2011, at her home.

She was born June 16, 1936, in Beauty, Ky., the daughter of the late Van and Rebecca Jude Erwin. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Robie Erwin; sister, Dixie Erwin; brother-in-law, Edward Calton; sisters-in-law, Pam Erwin and Betty Erwin.

Anna Mae was a graduate of Burch High School and a homemaker.

Those left behind to cherish her memories include her husband of 52 years, Rush Hatfield; son Rick Hatfield and daughter Vanessa (Michael) Troutman all of Galloway; grandchildren, Wade, Abigail and Michael Jr. Troutman; brothers, Bernard, Brady (Janice), Bruce (Patricia), and Van Jr. Erwin all of Columbus, Ohio, Herschel (Lucille) Erwin of Vermillion, Ohio, Doug (Karen), and Scott (Anita) Erwin both of Delbarton; sisters, Audra Calton of Delbarton, Toni (Michael) Cozmyk of Norwalk, Ohio, and Donna Sue (Ira) Simpkins of Dandridge, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Sheila Erwin of Delbarton. She will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Hall and Bro. Scott Erwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Erwin Cemetery at Lando.

Visitation will be at the funeral home chapel Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.

Judy Little

    Judy Faye Little, 68, of McCarr, Ky., passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at her residence.

     She was born May 8, 1942, in McCarr, a daughter of the late Fred and Pearl (May) Rife.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving companion, Darrell Lockhart; one daughter, Wilma Jean Hyden; two brothers, Raven and Avery Rife; and three sisters, Mary Rife, Ethel Bailey and twin sister, Eula Faye Rife.

     Judy was a retired cook at Food City and of the Church of Christ faith. 

She is survived by three sons, William Avery Hyden of McCarr, Samuel Jonathan Hyden of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joshua Pauley of McCarr; two daughters, Rhonda Lynn Trent of Delbarton, and Coetta Ford of Delbarton; two sisters, Sylvia Skeens of Charleston and Greta Mayhorn of Freeburn, Ky.; grandchildren, Walter Ford Jr., Anthony Ford, William Hyden, Katie Trent, Dustin Trent, Brandon Hyden  and Ashley Hyden; great-grandchildren, Hannah Hyden and Hailey Hyden; one great-grandson on the way and a host of loving friends.

     Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home with Bob Werntz officiating.  Burial will follow in the Anderson-Hatfield Cemetery, McCarr, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Steven Reed

Steven Reed, 55, of Varney, passed away Jan. 22, 201,1 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in S. Williamson, Ky.

He was born July 5, 1955, at Painsville, Ohio, the son of the late Chester Arthur and Sally Dean Roberts Reed. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Adkins.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hensley Reed; daughters, Stacy Chafin, Bernice Blankenship and Melanie Reed all of Varney, Rosalee Maynard of Williamson; brothers, Jerry Reed of North Carolina, Michael and Thomas Reed both of Varney; sister, Elizabeth Reed of Varney; 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Sarah Ann Church of God a 1 p.m. Thursday Jan. 27, with the Rev. Gary Starr and the Rev. Madison Ooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery at Varney.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Maynard, Shanan Blankenship, Jerry Reed, Tom Reed, Everette Adkins, Justin Maynard, Clinton Chaffin.

Sheila Slone

Sheila Fraley Slone, 56, of Delbarton, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 22, 2011, while a patient at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington.

She was born Jan. 30, 1954, in Delbarton, the daughter of the late Shelby and Frankie Chapman Fraley. She was also preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Hall; and her step-mother, Alada Totten Fraley.

She was a homemaker.

Those left behind to cherish her memories include her husband of 35 years, William Everett Slone; sons, Timothy (Brenda) Hall, William Ervin Slone and Shelby Ray Slone all of Delbarton; daughters, Tammy (Rusty) Chambers of Varney, Lisa (Tim Estep) Runyon of Ikes Fork, and Veronica Ann Slone of Delbarton; brothers, Albert (Betty) Totten and W.C. (Janet) Totten both of Delbarton, Clinton (Betty) Totten of Wayne, and Charles Totten of Virginia; sister, Betty Murphy of Ohio; grandchildren, Justin and Cody Baisden, Kimberly and Jessica Lynn McCoy, Sierra Ann Runyon, Bradley and Adrianna Slone, Leshay Stinson, Cayden Baisden and Baby Boy Gavan.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lewis Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrison Cemetery at Thacker.

Pallbearers will be William and Shelby Slone, Tim Hall, William and Doodle Stafford, Cody Baisden.

Visitation will be at the funeral home chapel Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
