WILLIAMSON - Law enforcement officials have been exceptionally busy over the last week responding to 911 calls, conducting traffic stops and executing arrest warrants.
Steven Ray Messer, 31, of Kermit, was arrested on a felony charge of 3rd offense domestic battery stemming from an incident that occurred on May 5th of this year. The defendant had originally been charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, but that charge was dismissed and he was then charged with the felony count after Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney C. Michael Sparks became aware of the this being a third time offense for Messer (previous domestic battery convictions on 5-7-03 and 9-15-08), which constitutes the felony charge.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Mingo County Sheriff’s Deputy M.J. Miller on May 5, Messer is accused of inflicting injuries upon his girlfriend, April Dawn Pilkins, at a home on Jenny’s Creek where they both resided at the time. Pilkins relayed to the officer that Messer punched her several times with his fist and further stated that he had grabbed her, kicked her, and held her down on the bed, refusing to allow her to get up. Miller noted that the victim had visible bruising and contusions to the facial area, both sides of her ribcage, both shoulders and also had a laceration in her scalp.
Jason Kelly Ball, 31, of Gilbert was taken into custody by West Virginia State Troopers D.L. Contos and J.D. Matheny after Mingo County Magistrate Dallas Toler signed an arrest warrant for charges of destruction of property, tampering with an auto, assault on an officer, fleeing on foot and petit larceny.
The troopers stated in the warrant that upon responding to a tampering with a vehicle complaint in the Town of Gilbert, they were advised by Gilbert Patrolman Wesley Lester that he had witnessed Ball in the process of breaking into a vehicle with a crow bar, causing approximately $4,000 in damage to both doors. Lester further relayed that Ball had attempted to flee the scene but was prevented from doing so by the officer.
Ball was transported to the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden and was later released after meeting the conditions stipulated on the $5,000 bond set by Magistrate Toler.
Dustin Keith McCoy, 28, of Lenore, was arrested on June 9 by MCSD Deputies M.J. Miller and M. Lendearo on a felony charge of malicious wounding stemming from an incident at Days Star Road on U.S. 119 between the defendant and Marvin Strunk, in which McCoy is said to have stabbed the victim several times causing laceration to his stomach and back.
Tony Mitchem, 32, of Taylorville was taken into custody on charges of domestic battery and malicious wounding by MCSD Corporal J. Endicott and Deputy E. Sherrill for injuries he allegedly caused to victim James Ooten.
The criminal complaint states that Mitchem struck the victim multiple times in the facial area and abdominal region causing severe swelling and broken ribs, cuts and abrasions to both his arms and to his right knee.
Richard Altizer, 44, of Gilbert, was placed under arrest by Gilbert Ast. Chief of Police N. Glanden and Patrolman S. Slone on charges of improper registration and Driving on a suspended license for reasons of DUI, 2nd offense. The arrest followed a traffic stop by the officers after a registration check was performed through Mingo County 911 that produced the information.
Keith Lee Crum, 19, of Cleveland, Tennessee, was taken into custody by MCSD Sgt. J.W. Muncy and Corporal J. Endicott on 2 counts of domestic battery after an alleged incident that occurred at Pigeon Roost Hollow in the Delbarton community in which Crum is accused of striking his sisters, Amy Goodman and Kendra Estep, in the head and facial area with his hands.
Christopher Don Savage, 29, of Chattaroy, was placed under arrest by MCSD Deputies M.J. Miller and M. Lendearo after he was observed operating a 1996 Dodge Ram truck within the City of Williamson limits by the officers who had prior knowledge that the defendant’s license had been revoked for reasons of DUI.
The defendant was charged with driving on a suspended license for reasons of DUI and one count of defective equipment relating to a defective muffler on the vehicle and a broken side mirror.
