James Raymond “Tex” Childers, 70, of Williamson, passed away Tuesday January 22, 2013, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 25, 1942, at Williamson, the son of the late Raymond and Lucille Ferguson Childers.

He is also preceded in death by one brother, David Childers; and one sister, Dana Childers.

Tex was a graduate of Williamson High School and retired from Persinger Supply Company. He was an active member of the East Williamson Baptist Church. He was recently inducted into the Williamson High School Athletic Hall of Fame which was one of his most proudest moments. He served the Williamson Area as a youth football coach for fifteen years, he was an avid hunter, a fisherman and he loved the outdoors. He was a loving husband, dad and a friend to many.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen Lockard Childers of Williamson; sons, Mike (Janice) Childers of Greensboro, N.C., Steve (Jan) Childers of Norton, Va., and Joe (Tawnya) Childers of Belfry, Ky.; sisters, Debbie Smith of Beckley, and Shera Childers of Williamson; grandchildren, Tyler Childers, Erin (Brad) Austin and Nick Childers and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, at 1 p.m. in the East Williamson Baptist Church with Brother Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home Chapel and after noon Thursday at the church.
