Eugene “Dickie” Skeens, 70, of Freeburn, Ky., died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at his residence.

Born Dec. 30, 1938, at Freeburn, he was the son of the late Chester and Etha McCoy Skeens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Joyce Ratliff Skeens; sisters, Delores Faye Hatfield and Mildred Hatfield; and a brother, Cletis “Bo” Skeens.

He had formerly worked as a coal miner and as a janitor at Freeburn Grade School.

He was of the Apostolic faith.

He is survived by sons, David Bryan Stump of Bristol, Tenn., Ronald “Pepper” Skeens and Edward “Skeeter” Skeens, both of Freeburn; daughters Marsha (Marshall) Daniels of Majestic, Ky., and Lisa (Cy) Robinette of Freeburn; a brother, Ronnie (Linda) Skeens of Phelps, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at the Faith Mission Church at McCarr, Ky., with Jimmy Fields and Charles Meeks officiating. Burial will follow at the Anderson Hatfield Ceme-tery at McCarr.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Phelps, Ky.
