BLUEFIELD (AP) — Roughly 500 members of a Bluefield-based West Virginia National Guard unit are heading home.

Retired Col. Derek Swope said soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 150th Armored Reconnaissance Squadron and the 230th Forward Support Company are on their way home.

The unit was deployed for its second tour of duty in Iraq in December 2008.

Cliff Lawrence of Bluefield said his son was among the soldiers scheduled to fly into Charleston sometime between Jan. 23 and 26. They should already be stateside.

The squadron also has armories in Eleanor, Oak Hill, Welch and Williamson.

Lawrence said the 150th’s Family Readiness Group is already making signs to welcome the troops home next week.
