Clarence E. Dotson, 84, of Clay City, Ky., formerly of Phelps, Ky., died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky., following a lingering illness.
He was born July 5, 1928, at Jamboree, Ky., a son of the late George Wheeler, III and Louisa McCoy Dotson.
Clarence was an Army veteran and lifelong coal miner, having worked at Caney Branch and Chisholm Mines.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was also preceded in death by six brothers, Lonnie, William “Wid”, Troy, Clyde, Harold and Fonso Dotson; as well as four sisters, Elva Wolford, Della Mae Dotson, Martha Woods and Belva Dotson.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ressie Pruitt Dotson of Clay City, Ky.; four sons, Herman (Donna Sue) Dotson of Clay City, Ky., Sherman (Diane) Dotson of Winchester, Ky., Sanford (Colleen) Dotson of Salt Lick, Ky., and David (Becky) Dotson of Paris, Ky.; two daughters, Reta Faye (Otto) Young of Stanton, Ky., and Edna Rhea (Ted) Horne of Beckley; two brothers, Thurman Dotson of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and James “Jim” Dotson of Chicago, Il.; 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Tresa) Dotson, Jerry Dotson, Candra (Bill) Foley, Brandon Wolford, Jonathan (Darlene) Young, Jessica (Wallace) Borders, Josh (Jeanna) Dotson, Adam Dotson, Jennifer (Daniel) Geddes and Chris (Lori) Ferrell; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Dale Payne will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, at Hearne Funeral Home Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, KY. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Stonegate Cemetery, 27 Stonegate Drive, Stanton, KY with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
