Bertha Mae Smith, 87, of Irvine, Ky., formerly of Smith Fork, Phelps, Ky., died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, in Richmond, Ky.

Born Oct. 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Ballard and Cordella Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Tolbert Harrison; brothers Columbus, Virgil, Sidney, Curtis, Cecil and Thomas Smith; and sisters Annie Martin and Lassie Hatfield.

She is survived by her husband, Harrison Smith of Irvine; a son, Robert Lewis (Janet Sue) Smith of Irvine; a daughter, Joyce Christian (Audy) Estep of Phelps; grandchildren Patricia (Tim) Fuller, Gary (Cindy) Estep and Joy (Rob) Isom; great-grandchildren Amber (Jeremy) Cantrell, Shawn Fuller and Justin Estep; and a great-great-grandchild, Jace Cantrell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home with elder Jimmy Lee Smith and Paul Varney officiating. Burial will follow at the Ballard Smith Cemetery at Smith Fork in Phelps.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the funeral home chapel.
