We hear the phrase “Count your blessings” during the holidays every year. There are those people who have great attitudes and have a list of items that make them thankful. Others wouldn’t recognize a blessing if it was paraded in their street. If the truth be told, we probably all do not realize the enormity of God’s goodness. Many seem to focus on the negative things happening in the world which can be counted. However, when it comes to the kind acts of God and what he does for us, it can’t be numbered. In fact, you would need a calculator and a lot of math to reach a more accurate total.

The reason why God’s blessing are too numerous to count is because he gives them on a daily basis. Those people who have a daily walk with Jesus can identify with the verse in Psalms 68:19: “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.” It is interesting that the psalmist uses the word load in his description of the benefits of the Lord. If a gun is loaded, it is filled to maximum capacity. God wants to maximize his blessings in our lives to full capacity. If we allow him, he will pour them out until we are full and give us all we can stand. He knows how to complete us and how to make us happy because he is our Creator.

Every morning when we wake up, we immediately receive from the Lord. His mercies are new every day and his compassion will not fail us. In the tough times, he is faithful and never leaves us. He guides us through life like a good Shepherd and provides all our needs. The cross offers all salvation, healing, and reconciliation back to God for all who believe. We can still be forgiven, have a relationship with Jesus, and find rest for our souls. Christ can still give us peace in a troubled world. He is the God that gave it all that we could have an abundant life. If he did not spare his own son, then what will he withhold from them that serve him?
