The world has experienced an abnormal amount of historic natural disasters and storms recently. Even this year we have witnessed major flooding, earthquakes, and hurricanes in diverse places. With advancing technology, experts can make more accurate predictions as to where and when these threats will take place. As necessary, they will send warnings to areas in life threatening situations. This call will save many peoples’ lives as they evacuate and make vital preparations. However, there are always some who will not take heed to the warnings. They will mock, others will ignore, and some folks will just make excuses. Unfortunately, this stubbornness has cost many their lives.

The scriptures record an important warning in Hebrews 3:7-8: “Wherefore as the Holy Ghost saith, Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness.” As God delivered his people from bondage out of Egypt, he led them into the wilderness and on the path to the promise land. In the desert he provided their needs, guided them, and worked miracles to their advantage. However, they continuously rebelled and rejected God’s command. As a result, many perished in the wilderness and never made it to the promise land. Not only can it be perilous to ignore severe weather alerts, but also God’s word. We are still on dangerous ground today when we refuse to obey him.

God’s word gives us important instructions for life and vital preparations for eternity. He desires to give us an abundant life and the benefit of his promises. This will only take place when we take heed and follow what he says. The path of sin still leads to destruction and too many are choosing eternal damnation. Jesus commanded all to repent from sin or perish. This grave warning includes everyone and we must treat it more serious than an impending natural disaster. God is unconditionally loving and abundant in mercy. However, his plan and promises require obedience. The Lord knows what is best and is like a loving father to his children. He wants to keep us from all harm and lead us safely to our promise land. Have you taken heed to his warning call to you?
