The Ultimate Vacation

Every year, an important decision must be made about a vacation destination. Will it be a cruise to the Bahamas or some other tropical paradise? Maybe the theme park idea at Disney World or Dollywood is the right choice. For some people just staying at home is all that is desired for rest and relaxation. Either way, the summer can be a wonderful time of excitement and memorable moments. It is also a great time to think about the ultimate vacation destination mentioned in the Bible. This is the promise made by God that is incomparable to all other dream locations. Just like any summer trip, important preparations must be made to enter Heaven.

This promise is mentioned in John 14:1-3: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” These words encouraged and strengthened the disciples as they faced challenging times. They will also work for us to endure hardships. Whatever sacrifice we give to God will never compare to the reward he has in store for us. When people reject, mock, or misunderstand us, it will be alright because we have an eternal promise. Even in our most ferocious storms, we can look up with encouragement because Jesus has prepared a place for his children.

We can expect greater things from Heaven than our familiar vacations travels. The new city described in Revelation 21 is not built by man. The master architect has constructed a flawless city made from precious stones and gold beyond human imagination. The tropical islands of Hawaii, majestic mountains of Appalachia, and powerful Niagara Falls testify of the work of our Creator. An observant traveler will understand that God’s earthly masterpieces reflect his abilities and that Heaven will be amazing. Not only will it be beautiful, the peace, order, and love that are unobtainable with man will rule the streets. It is the place of rest from the presence of the Lord that never ends.

Since it tops all other vacation destinations, it is vital that we make reservations. We would never take an important trip unprepared or appear at an airport without a ticket. Many have shown up with good intentions and have missed flights for this very reason. Jesus is the only ticket that will allow us access to his kingdom. His work has solved the sin road blocks and reconciled us back to God. For this reason, he offers this eternal promise to everyone. Faith in Christ, repentance from sin, and confessing him as Lord will make these reservations certain. As you enjoy the rest of the summer, make sure you do not forget about God’s promises. Make it a priority to obtain the glorious eternity that has been created for you.
