Looking for rest during our hectic day can be like trying to sleep in a war zone. Whether it is a demanding business schedule or a chaotic home, the problems keep coming. Sometimes life can be like a series of battles. It doesn’t matter if you have won or lost the first challenge, the next assault is on its way. We can grow weary in the long struggle especially when it seems like nothing is going to change. Although the seemingly endless struggle is real, a strategy is given to us from the life of David.
David made a victorious declaration in Psalms 55:18 “He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me; for there were many with me.” During his life, David endured many devastating calamities and faced life threatening battles. He said that although there were many, God was faithful to deliver him in peace. Because of his faith and relationship with the Lord, he won numerous victories and overcame great obstacles. These extraordinary accomplishments could have never happened on his own. What was even more amazing was the peace that David knew in such a tumultuous life. Not only was this God’s deliverance from his enemies, but the tranquility he gives on the inside.
A child like faith in God will bring about a supernatural peace. We get a picture of this in Mark 4:38. A violent storm rages suddenly upon the disciples and Jesus at sea. Although the disciples panicked and were afraid for their lives, Jesus was asleep on the boat. He had a supernatural assurance even in a threatening situation. The peace of God is not the absence of problems in our daily lives. It is the blessed assurance that God is in control and that he will take care of us. A close relationship with the Lord will help us have more peace and less panic in our soul.
Whether you feel like you are in a war or just weary from life in general, God wants to give us rest. He will fight our battles and strengthen us for the struggle. It is important that we reach up so that we do not wear down. Jesus will deliver his child in peace from the battle just like the promise in the Psalms. Remember that God is in control and is faithful to take care of his children. Put your faith in Him and invite him into your combat zone. Draw close to him and make your request to the Almighty. Then his peace which passes all understanding will guard your heart. It doesn’t matter what you are going through, it is time that you find rest in the Lord.
