Chase Harler, a sophomore guard who led Wheeling Central to the Class A state basketball title in March, has committed to West Virginia.
Harler made his decision this past weekend, as soon as the Mountaineers made him a scholarship offer. It’s the first commitment of the 2016 class for WVU.
The 6-foot-3 Harler averaged 20.2 points last season. He had also received a scholarship offer from Marshall. He will be a junior this season for the Maroon Knights.
Harler is reportedly a fan of WVU, so it is no surprise he jumped at the offer after Coach Bob Huggins and his staff presented the scholarship to him.
… Highly touted Huntington Prep basketball star Montaque “Teki” Gill-Caesar signed this past weekend to play at the University of Missouri. Gill-Caesar, a 6-foot-6 forward from Ontario, is a consensus top 50 recruit.
Gill-Caesar averaged 16.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.7 steals last season at Huntington Prep. This comes as no surprise because Missouri earlier hired his prep school coach Rob Fulford as an assistant.
Gill-Caesar was rated the No. 31 prospect in the class of 2015 by Rivals.com and rated the top player in Canada by ESPN.com.
