WEST WILLIAMSON – More than 250 runners participated in the 2nd Annual Kickin’ Butt for Crohn’s 5-K held on a rainy Friday evening in Williamson.

“I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I felt the evening was perfect. I’m so grateful that our community comes together for each other. You can’t say that about many communities,” said one of the organizers of the event, Shawn Cool.

“Thanks to all the participants who joined us to make this a successful Crohn’s fundraiser and thank you to everyone for honoring our friend, Scott Poole,” he added.

Several of Poole’s friends ran the race in honor of Scott, who recently passed away after a tragic accident. Many of his friends finished the last few yards of the 5-K with Scott’s mother Pat as she crossed the finish line.

Cool also thanked the sponsors who made the event possible.

“Thanks to the City of Williamson Fire and Police Departments, along with the ambulance crews - and thanks to Pierce Whitt for letting us use the Williamson Fieldhouse afterward for our awards presentation and pizza party,” Cool said.

All of the runners received T-shirts, participation medals and the winners got trophies.

The Tug Valley Road Runners Club (TVRRC) has been helping sponsor and organize at least one race per month. Many residents of the area have bought into the fitness craze.

The TVRRC meets once a month. Their next meeting is Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Tug Valley Inn. They will discuss the next races – the Bulldog 5-K, Coal Dust Run and Frank O’Brien race.

Here is a list of the winners of Friday night’s race.
