Jon Ball, son of former Williamson residents Steven Ball and Norma (Jackson) Ball has been selected for a prestigious appointment as an intern with the Dale Ride Internship Program on Capitol Hill in Washington DC.
His paternal and maternal grandparents are local Williamson area residents; Elizabeth Ball, the late John Ball, Eugene Jackson, and Mizie Jackson. He is a student at Santa Monica College in California. He was one of the five people selected from a competitive process involving over 70 applicants. The final selection was based upon academic achievement, content of submitted essays, and interviews with a selection panel.
Established in 1991, the Dale Ride Internship honors the memory of Dr. Dale Ride, Professor of Political Science, administrator, and political activist on behalf of the academic community at Santa Monica College. The program allows students to participate in politics locally, statewide or nationally, in governmental or non-governmental agencies; broaden students’ awareness of public service as a career; and complement the curriculum for disciplines related to public service/public policy with hands-on practical internship experience. Selected students serve an eight-week internship with a congress person in Washington DC while being housed at George Washington University in DC. Jon was assigned to assist congress woman Julia Brownley (D-CA).
