SHELBIANA, Ky. — A Pike County woman lost her life in a Thursday traffic crash, according to a press release by Kentucky State Police.


According to KSP Post 9 in Pikeville, a call was received regarding a two-vehicle collision with injuries on U.S. Highway 460 in the Shelbiana community of Pike County. Kyla Fouts died Friday from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the press release.


KSP Accident Reconstructionist Tpr. Bryan Layne responded to the scene. Information obtained at the scene indicates that Katherine J. Kilgore, of Ashcamp, Ky., was traveling west on U.S. 460 when she came upon a stopped vehicle in the westbound lane.


Kilgore attempted to avoid the stopped vehicle, crossed the center line into the eastbound lane of U.S. 460 and struck an eastbound vehicle operated by Dedra Fouts of Virgie, Ky.


Dedra Fouts and one of the passengers in her vehicle were taken to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Kilgore was also taken to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.


A third person in the Fouts vehicle, six-year-old Kyla Fouts, was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. She died Friday as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.


This accident remains under investigation.
