A criminal complaint filed in the Magistrate Court of Mingo County by the West Virginia State Police charges a Logan County woman with sexual assault, third degree, saying she engaged in sexual intercourse with a juvenile male, between the approximate ages of 13 and 15.
An officer who spoke with the juvenile noted that sexual intercourse did, in fact, occur at the defendant’s residence.
Cheryl Ann Spurlock, 32, of Ethel, did not give the appearance of the typical “cougar.” She was married to the pastor of a church, had two daughters, ages two and nine months and worked at the June Montgomery Harless Children’s Home.
Since, according to a member of her husband’s family, she allegedly “fell in love” with a juvenile, even the appearance of her former life is gone.
She no longer has a job at the June Montgomery Harless Children’s Home, who declined comment other than to say she was no longer employed there.
Her husband filed for divorce and reportedly, Ms. Spurlock filed for custody of her daughters. When law enforcement went with her to get the daughters after temporary custody in her favor was allegedly granted, the father’s family told them to check the system for outstanding warrants. That’s when Ms. Spurlock was arrested on the outstanding warrant from Mingo County and lodged in the Western Regional Jail. Her bond is set at $25,000.
Now, the father has custody the girls and family members say he also got an order of protection against Ms. Spurlock.
If convicted of this felony charge, Ms. Spurlock could face imprisonment in a state correctional facility not less than one year nor more than five years, or fined not more than ten thousand dollars and imprisoned in a state correctional facility not less than one year nor more than five years.
