WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D–W.Va.) Wednesday took part in a United Service Organization (USO) sponsored service project to support the needs of wounded, ill and injured service members as they transition from military service to civilian life.

“Supporting our military overseas, as well as providing the care and support services for our soldiers and their families at home, is a responsibility I take very seriously,” said Rahall, a senior member of the House Military Veterans Caucus. “This worthy USO project is just one small measure to show our appreciation for those who have put themselves in harm’s way for us.”

The Warrior Care Pack was developed by the USO to support the needs of our wounded, ill and injured service members during their transition from field to primary treatment locations. Rahall volunteered to help assemble care packs that will provide apparel and personal care products for recovering service members. Additionally, he wrote personal notes of encouragement and thanks to service members and signed a special flag made from military battle dress uniforms, “BDUs”, which will be flown at a USO center in Afghanistan.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt founded the USO in 1941 with a mission of representing the American people by extending a “touch of home” to our troops and their families.
