PAINTSVILLE, Ky. – The Lawrence County Bulldogs ended Sheldon Clark’s season 60-54 in the first round of the 57th District tournament played at Johnson Central High School on Wednesday night at Eagle Fieldhouse in Paintsville.


“The bottom line is that Lawrence County played better than us tonight,” said Cardinal’s head coach Frankie Smith. “Josh Cook has done a great job with his team. They are well balanced and well coached.”


“I am very proud of our effort tonight and I am proud they we won 19 games this year while starting 3 freshman and 2 juniors. I am very excited about the future of Sheldon Clark basketball,” Smith added.


The Bulldogs made 20 of 43 shots from the floor for 47 percent, including, 5 of 15 of their 3-pointers. They were 15 - 20 at the foul line for 75 percent.


The Bulldogs out-rebounded SCHS 36 to 32.


The Cardinals were a little cold from the floor making 20 of 56 for 30 percent, including 6 of 24 from behind the arc. SCHS made 8 of 13 at the free throw line for 67 percent.


LCHS swept the regular season games from Sheldon Clark.


Chase Parsley fired in 27 points for SC, while Dylan James scored 15.


Austin Chaffins led LCHS with 18, while Tim Dalton had 14 points.


Lawrence County will advance in the 57th District to take on defending champion Johnson Central tonight. This is Lawrence County’s final year in the 57th District. Next year, they will play in the 60th District.
