BMS Football team back in state playoffs

BELFRY, Ky. - Belfry Middle School defeated East Carter 55-13 last week to win the regional championship. The victory puts BMS back in the state semi-finals.

The Pirates will play Barrett Middle (Louisville) in Lexington for state semis Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lexington Bryan Station High School. If they win the Pirates will play for the state title Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Bryan Station against the winner of Wayne County and North Middle (North Hardin) game.

In last week’s game Devin Varney rushed for a pair of touchdowns and had an interception return for another score on defense. Justin Adkins had a pair of TDs, one rushing and one on a pass reception. Mikey Sesco and Taveon Hunter also added touchdowns for coach Elbert Thacker’s team. Josh Keathley also had an interception return for the Pirates.

Belfry Middle School has only lost two games this year. They have a record of 12-2. This is their second straight season of making it to the Bluegrass State’s state tourney for middle school teams.

The Pirates won the title last year, which was the first in school history for BMS.
