Knott Central junior Camron Justice, who has committed to play at Tennessee, scored 27 points in a 93-25 rout of visiting Jenkins. Justice passed the mark as his No. 6-ranked Patriots easily won the game. He now has a total of 2,023 points for his career.

Justice is the son of former Belfry coach Raymond Justice. He had previously played as a 7th and 8th grader at East Ridge before the Justice family moved to Knott County.

Local fans will have a chance to see the rising star and perhaps a future Mr. Basketball candidate for the Bluegrass State when Knott Central plays Sheldon Clark at the Williamson Fieldhouse on Friday, December 20th.

… Local hoops fans can see former Tug Valley players Austin Brewer and Mikey Newsome played last night at the Eddie King Gym up in Charleston as the Golden Eagles hosted Fairmont State. Former Logan All-state performer Stevie Browning starts for Fairmont as a sophomore.

Former Tug Valley girl’s player Elizabeth Evans will be playing at the University of Pikeville (Expo Center) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. She plays for WVU Tech.

… It’s been a tough week for former Kentucky stars and top 2012 NBA draft picks Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

The Bobcats announced Wednesday that Kidd-Gilchrist will be sidelined four to six weeks with a broken left hand, an eerily similar injury to what Davis suffered earlier this week.

Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft, suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fourth metacarpal in his left hand during Tuesday night’s game at Dallas.

Kidd-Gilchrist’s former college teammate and friend Davis, who was selected No. 1 last year, suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his left hand in the Pelicans game Sunday night against the New York Knicks. Davis is also expected to be out four to six weeks.

As freshmen they helped Kentucky win a national title in 2012 before turning pro.

… WVU is recruiting JUCO tight end Darrion Hutcherson who played for Copiah-Lincoln Community College this past year. The big 6’7”, 260 pound tight end would be a great target for any quarterback. He should also be a good blocking end. He is supposed to visit Morgantown in the near future.

… Don’t forget the Huntington Prep- Genesis Prep basketball game to be played at Mingo Central next Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m. Both teams have several Division One commitments or prospects and fans should be treated to some great basketball. A preliminary freshman game for the Miners will precede the prep game.

… Most middle school teams have started playing their basketball games this week, along with the girls’ basketball teams in both W.Va. and Ky. Area coaches are encouraged to send in their scores and stats from games via e-mail to klovern@civitasmedia.com or by phone at 304-235-4242, ext. 33.
