The Battle of the Mountains – the Williamson ARH Bowl – will feature Pikeville (4-0) visiting CAM Stadium to take on Belfry (3-0) tonight.

That is perhaps the biggest game on tap in the region. Pikeville comes in ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, while the Pirates are currently ranked No.1 in Class 3A.

However, BHS head coach Philip Haywood doesn’t pay much attention to the polls, especially early in the season. He just wants his squad to concentrate on the opponent at hand. The past few seasons Belfry has handled Pikeville rather handedly, but in past years, it was a bitter rivalry.

Both Mingo Central and Tug Valley will hit the road again this week. The Miners (2-1) will head down to McDowell County to take on Westside. Mingo Central is ranked No. 15 in the first SSAC poll, which determines the 16 playoff teams. Westside, 1-2, goes into the game ranked at No. 20. This has the making of a good, hard-hitting game.

Tug Valley (2-1) makes the long trek to Hasyi, Va. (2-0). The Panthers came in ranked at No. 15 in Class A this week.

The rest of the schedule involving some regional teams will see Phelps at East Ridge, Sheldon Clark at Letcher County, Prestonsburg at Pike Central, Point Pleasant at Logan, Chapmanville at Poca, River View at Man and Sissonville at Scott.

In college action on Saturday, Marshall travels to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech, West Virginia drives east to take on Maryland and Kentucky has an open date. The University of Pikeville played on Thursday night.
