RED JACKET - For the first time in school history the Lady Miners of Mingo Central defeated the Lady Rebels of Tolsia 46-31 on Monday night up on the mountaintop campus of MCHS.
“I thought the key to the game was controlling the boards,” Lady Miners coach Clay Campbell said. “We blocked out well. The girls are getting better. That’s what we want to see. From the last game to the next game, we want them to improve.”
“They have worked hard in practice and I’m really pleased with their attitudes,” Campbell added.
Junior Ashley Curry had a double - double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Jada Taylor had nine rebounds and added four points.
Mingo Central had a balanced scoring attack. Hannah Church scored a game high 13, while Kaitlyn Day and Paige Muncy each scored five. Campbell praised the hustle and defense of his squad, especially freshman Tyshira Joplin, who provided a spark off the bench.
The Lady Miners led 11-3 after one quarter and 24-7 at halftime. They played even in the second half and held on to beat the Cardinal Conference opponent.
Savanah Winnett led Tolsia with 10 points.
