Pond Creek, Big Creek, Blackberry and residents of other Belfry area communities need to congratulate the Belfry Middle School Pirates and their coaching staff for winning back to back state championship football titles.
This is quite an accomplishment for a rural school in Pike County, Ky. and the community should be very proud and excited.
This bodes well for the high school team as their feeder school continues to produce fundamentally sound players and send them on to Coach Philip Haywood and his staff.
Belfry Middle School will host a community celebration on Friday November 8 at 10 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium to celebrate the back-to-back Kentucky State Middle School champion football team. Everyone is welcome and the staff at BMS encourages fans to come out and help celebrate the accomplishments of these young athletes.
… Reserved tickets are now on sale in the main office at Belfry High School for the first round playoff game with Jackson County at CAM Stadium on Friday night. Season ticket holders have first choice of seats and they must be picked up by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. For more information call 237-3900. General admission tickets are $5 and reserved seating is $7.
…The WVU vs. Texas game this weekend will be on Fox Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. in Morgantown. Also, the Big 12 Conference has announced that WVU’s Saturday, Nov. 16, Big 12 Conference football contest at Kansas will be televised on Fox Sports Net at noon, ET.
Tickets are still available for Saturday’s game against Texas. To order, log-on to WVUGAME.com, stop by the Mountaineer Ticket Office in the WVU Coliseum or call 1-800-WVU GAME. Online ticket sales will continue until 3 p.m. Saturday. Ticket sales will resume at the stadium ticket office outside the North gate at 5 p.m. Saturday.
… Fairmont State forward/guard Stevie Browning had a team high 23 points against WVU in an exhibition game on Monday night. Browning played his high school basketball at Logan under Mark Hatcher. The former Wildcat also had eight rebounds and three steals. He is a sophomore at FSU.
… Junior college forward Jay Johnson verbally committed to the Marshall men’s basketball program. Johnson is a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill., where he averaged 10.7 points and 8.3 rebounds as a freshman. He is from Versailles, Ky., and was an all-state player at Woodford County High School.
Marshall also has commitments from 6-8 Shane Hall of Johnson Central High School in Paintsville, Ky., and 6-11 Henry Uwadiae from Kirkwood Community College in Iowa. The basketball early signing period begins Nov. 13.
…Thundering Herd quarterback Rakeem Cato was the Conference USA Player of the Week for his performance last weekend. Cato completed 21-of-28 passes for 262 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in the Thundering Herd’s 61-13 win over Southern Miss.
