PARKERSBURG – Mingo Central is ranked No. 9 in the latest WVSSAC football poll.

The Miners are coming off a big win over Class 3A Logan and moved up from 13th to the 9th spot this week in Class 2A.

Mingo Central plays at Herbert Hoover this week and ends up the regular season next week at home against Mt. View. If the Miners win out and get a little help from a couple of other teams, it is feasible that they could finish in the top eight. That would enable them to host a playoff game for the first time in school history at Buck Harless Stadium.

Bluefield, despite having one loss at 7-1, is percentage points ahead of Wayne for the top spot in Class 2A. Bridgeport comes in at No. 3, Summers County No. 4, Frankfort No. 5 and Wyoming East No. 6 this week. Sissonville is ranked No. 7 this week, while Fairmont Senior is just ahead of Mingo Central at No. 8.

If the playoffs were this week, Chapmanville, Tolsia, Scott and Westside would be on the outside looking in of the top 16.

In Class 1A, Madonna is No. 1, while St. Mary’s is No. 2, followed by Valley (Fayette), Williamstown and Moorefield. The Man Hillbillies are ranked No. 6 this week. They may host a first round playoff game. The Hillbillies travel to Tug Valley this week. The Panthers are ranked No. 22 and only have an outside shot at making the post season.

In Class 3A, Huntington remains at the top. They are followed by Martinsburg, Point Pleasant, Capitol and George Washington. Logan, after its loss to Mingo Central, is ranked No. 17 this week. They will need to finish strong and will need some help to finish in the top 16.
