Recent Mingo County Board of Education Approvals

WILLIAMSON – Members of the Mingo County Board of Education voted Tuesday evening to approve new positions, transfers, resignations, supplemental duties, extracurricular assignments, and service personnel.

New employment was approved for open positions. William Alley will be teaching Health and PE at Burch Middle. Elaine Booten, Lena Fletcher, and Logan Lester have been approved for open Substitute positions. Ashley Ritz was approved for Grade 5 and Tiffany Young was approved for Grade 4 at Lenore PK-8. Justin Carter was approved to teach Science at Mingo Central. Jennifer Davis was approved for Kindergarten at Kermit PK-8. Jennifer Miller was approved for grade 3 at Matewan PK-8. Barbara Perkins has been approved to teach grade 4 at Gilbert Elementary. Heather Johnson was approved for Special Education at Tug Valley High School.

Members also approved several transfers for existing positions. Andrea Brinager was approved for transfer to Pre-K at Dingess Elementary. Brian Charles will be filling a position needed for Lenore PK-8. Robin Ellis will be moving from Gilbert Middle to teach English at Mingo Central High School. Timothy Craig Parker will be moving to Grade 3 at Matewan PK-8. William Joshua Sammons will be teaching Health and PE at Mingo Central High School. Amber Ford will return to Kindergarten at Delbarton Elementary and Sondra Pruitt will return for Grade 5 at Burch Middle.

Resignations were approved for Helen Curry from Burch Elementary, as well as Barry Hatfield and Sarah Westlake from Mingo Central High School.

Supplemental duties for school nurses were approved for Sandra Chapman, Jacqueline Bobbera, Helen Dingess, and Tonya Hagy.

New extracurricular assignments were approved for Robert Hodge for assistant football and basketball coach at Tug Valley High School. Joseph Childers was approved as athletic trainer for Tug Valley High School. Joseph Fields II was approved as assistant football coach and Michele Vance was approved as assistant girls’ soccer coach for Mingo Central High School. Johnny Messer, Jr. was approved for Cheer Coach at Kermit PK-8. Calvin Smith was approved as soccer coach for Williamson PK-8.

Service personnel positions were approved for Robert Channell, Ira Wellman, and Laura Wolford for bus drivers in the Gilbert area. Jackie Hundley was approved as substitute bus operator for Mingo County schools. Donna Michelle Rahe was approved as a cook at Lenore PK-8.

Overall, Robert Bobbera is confident about the new school year. “We are very much in line for the start of school,” he said.

The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 11, 2015.
