The Williamson High School (WHS) Class of ‘74 had the opportunity to reconnect with their classmates when they celebrated their 40 year class reunion August 1 and 2, 2014. Classmates reflected on the past, talked about the present, and made memories for the future.
Pre-registration began Friday evening with a meet and greet and tour of the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce, from 7 pm until 9 pm conducted by Cecil Hatfield, followed by dinner and socializing on the street at Starters. Classmate Kyle Lovern, a local author and journalist, held a book signing at the Chamber during this time.
On Saturday a tour of the WHS Hall of Fame at the Williamson Field House was conducted by Steve Wilson, a 1974 WHS grad. The tour was enjoyed by several classmates, followed by a tour of the old Williamson High School building. They continued on with lunch at Starters and then attended the festivities on Saturday evening at the Williamson Community Center with registration starting at 6:00 pm and dinner and social time beginning at 7:00 pm.
A memorial tribute was conducted by Wilson opening with prayer and a candle being lit to memorialize each classmate who had passed on: Thomas Eugene Lee, Billy Staten, Danni Lyn Smith, Michael Jessie Lewis Perkins, David Preston Meade, Deborah Jean Phillips, Donald Deskins, Franklin Britt Eldridge, Robert Lee Robinson, Jr., Stephen Eugene Estepp, Robin McFarland Chafin, Paula Hatfield Thacker, Jeffrey Scott McCoy, Robert Eugene Casebolt, III, and Shelton Dotson.
