WILLIAMSON – The upcoming consolidation of Williamson Christian School and Delbarton Regional Christian School was confirmed Friday by the Mingo County Commission’s office.
Although the consolidation has been discussed for several months, the location of the new school had been kept under wraps by most everyone involved.
Pastor Mitchell Bias of the Regional Church of God did not reveal the location of the planned consolidation when asked Friday, saying that he would rather wait until the press release had made its rounds of the media.
Social media was much more revealing, however, with several parents of children from both schools publicizing via Facebook that their children would be moved to the old Williamson Middle School building next year.
The new school was briefly mentioned at a Mingo County Commission meeting on Wednesday in which Commission President Greg “Hootie” Smith discussed the possibility of using the old Williamson Middle School for the consolidation of the two area Christian schools.
A Mingo County museum featuring a coal mining simulator was also mentioned as a possible tenant for the old WMS building.
The new school is expected to be ready by late summer or early fall. More information will be released as it becomes available.
