WILLIAMSON – Mingo County Schools Superintendent Randy Keathley announced that he is retiring from that position effective at the end of the school year.

In a press release issued Wednesday afternoon to the media, Keathley stated, “In January, I began discussions with Dr. James B. Phares, State Superintendent of Schools, confirming my plans to retire as superintendent of Mingo County Schools at the end of the school year. It was my hope that we would be able to formulate plans to work together to identify a successor. This was contingent upon the realization of the School Building Authority of West Virginia awarding the funds for Mingo County’s new Burch Pre K-8 facility.”

“I am most appreciative for the help of the citizens and parents of Mingo County for their continued support of our School Excess Levy and for all the programs we endeavor to provide for our students,” Keathley wrote.

“We have a wonderful school system, with both professional and service employees working daily to provide a quality educational experience for all our students. I am grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to be a part of what was envisioned for Mingo County Schools just a few short years ago. It has been a great honor and privilege to have been a part of our school system the past 34 years.”

“As President John F. Kennedy once said, “Change is the law of the life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

Keathley started his educational career as an elementary school teacher and later became a principal. Eventually he served as an assistant superintendent and most recently as the superintendent of schools for Mingo County.
