Thompson, Maynard and Smith claim victories

WILLIAMSON - With all votes in and counted, the 2014 Primary Election comes to an end with several incumbents retaining their seats that will be joined by others who are new to these positions.

WV House of Delegates Representative Justin Marcum finished with 69.98 percent, over his challenger, Mike Baisden, who finished with 30.02 percent.

Our next Circuit Judge for Mingo County will be Miki Thompson, who received 38.96 percent of the vote, followed by Jonathan “Duke” Jewell with 27.60, Robert Calrton finished the night with 22.53 percent and Teresa McCune got 10.92.

For the expired County Commission term, Incumbent Greg “Hootie” Smith won by a narrow margin of 50.63 percent over former Sheriff Lonnie Hannah, who was close on his heels with 49.37. The difference in the totals was 77 votes.

The expired Commission term seen County Clerk “Big Jim” Hatfield winning over Incumbent Mike Carter with a 44.56 to 38.60 percent total. Dave Justice finished third with 16.84.

Prosecuting Attorney Teresa Maynard hung on to finish ahead of her challenger, Charles “Butch” West by 45.85 to 42.82 percent margin. Third place finisher Wes White received 11.33.

For Sheriff, Incumbent James Smith won by a landslide over Roy Toler 82.18 percent of the vote, with Tiller getting 17.82.

In the magistrates race, Jim Harvey was the top place finisher with a 31.47 percent win. Second place was Thomas Taylor was received 24.51, Scott Smith with 22.28, Michelle Webb at 13.36 and Colin Kelley with 6.38.
